Your Story
Your Survey
Why YOU Should Participate
We Need Your Input
Researchers use the results from your
survey to publish reports and news
articles about many topics and aspects
of life: the labor market, families,
finances, health and so much more.
The information that you provide will
help us continue to explore important
topics, like retirement and other
life-changing events, that impact
your generation.
Health and Aging
The NLSY79 provides opportunities to
study how aging affects health and
well-being. As Americans age, health
can impact work decisions, living
arrangements, and financial security.
Retirement
As researchers and policy
makers gather information
on the resources our nation’s
future retirees will need, it’s
critical to look at people
in their pre-retirement/
transitioning to retirement
years. The NLSY79 cohort is at
this age now with the oldest
members turning age 62 in
2019.
We can also examine future
changes in retirement plans
and experiences, as well as
the ways these transitions
are affected by earlier work
experiences. Your responses
allow us to understand how
people plan for and transition
to retirement.
Policy
Healthcare, Social Security, pensions and
retirement savings are important public
policy areas. For example, the Government
Accountability Office (Oct 1, 2016) referenced the
NLS when reporting to the House Committee on
Ways and Means about 401(k) plans.
This influential committee’s deliberations intersect
with many issues affecting your generation and is
an example of how your survey responses inform
policy makers.
