[IF EMAILING RF PROGRAM OR PARTNER ORGANIZATION USE THIS LANGUAGE]

Dear [RF PROGRAM POINT OF CONTACT],

Child Trends, an independent research organization, and their partners are contracting with the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a study to better understand Responsible Fatherhood (RF) program and partner organization services provided to prevent and address violence that occurs between fathers and their current or former romantic partners. We are calling this intimate partner violence or IPV. The goal of this study is to describe organizations’ approaches to addressing IPV.

[FOR OFA-FUNDED RF GRANTEES] We are reaching out to you because the Office of Family Assistance (OFA) recommended you for this study, and we would like to learn more about your program.

[FOR OTHER RF PROGRAMS] We are reaching out to you because we would like to learn more about your program.

[FOR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS] We are reaching out to you because of your partnership with [RF PROGRAM NAME], and we would like to learn more about your program.

As a part of this effort, the study team will be conducting interviews with RF program directors, program facilitators, and staff from partnering organizations. Six of these programs will be asked to participate in site visits. During the site visits, we will conduct observations of RF program sessions in addition to interviewing program staff. We hope to visit and interview staff at sites throughout the country that serve a diverse range of target populations and offer different IPV services. Any information we gather for the study will be kept private, and neither your organization nor your staff will be named in any reports. To help us reach a diverse range of RF programs for our site visits and ensure eligibility, we would need to ask you a few questions as part of a study screener interview. This will take about 60 minutes and is voluntary. This study screener interview includes requests for information such as the characteristics of program clients, services provided, and information about partnerships. Please email or call us at your earliest convenience with days and times you would be available to participate in the study screener interview. We expect it to take about an hour to conduct the interview and schedule any follow up. Our study point of contact, Brooke Whitfield, can be reached at (240) 223-9393 or [email protected].

Please note that an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. The OMB control number for the described collection is 0970-XXXX and it expires on x/xx/201X.

Thank you in advance for your participation,

Mindy Scott, Study Director

[IF CALLING USE THIS LANGUAGE]

Hello. My name is [SCREENER’S NAME]. I’m calling from [CHILD TRENDS/FUTURES WITHOUT VIOLENCE/BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER]. May I speak with [RF PROGRAM/PARTNER CONTACT PERSON]?

I’m calling about a research study that Child Trends and their partners are conducting with Responsible Fatherhood programs and their partner organizations. The goal of this study is to describe how Responsible Fatherhood programs address violence that occurs between fathers and their former or current romantic partners to better serve fathers and families in Responsible Fatherhood programs.

As a part of this effort, the study team will be conducting site visits with up to six RF programs. During the site visits, we will conduct observations of one or two RF program sessions and conduct interviews with program facilitators, program directors, and staff working at partner organizations. Staff from additional RF program sites will be asked to participate in interviews by phone. Any information we gather for the study will be kept private, and neither your organization nor your staff will be named in any reports.

We want to collect information from a range of service sites all around the country that serve a diverse range of target populations and offer different IPV services. In order to make sure that your organization is eligible to participate in the study, I would need to ask you a few questions as part of a study screener interview. This will take about 60 minutes and is voluntary. What are some times in the upcoming weeks that you would be available to answer these questions?

Please note that an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. The OMB control number for the described collection is 0970-XXXX and it expires on x/xx/201X.
