Primary care physicians who serve consumers born in countries where TB is common. Professional
recruitment vendors will recruit participants using Recruitment Screening Questionnaires. The vendors
draw from a voluntary panel of people who have agreed to be contacted.

This formative information collection will inform NCHHSTP DTBE’s future public service campaign
efforts targeted to consumers at high-risk for Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) and the providers who
serve them. This information collection activity is essential because it will provide CDC with effective
messages for communicating important TB information to energize LTBI testing and treatment among atrisk populations and their health care providers.

The United States reported 9,025 tuberculosis (TB) cases during 2018. More than 80% of U.S. TB cases
are now believed to be associated with longstanding untreated LTBI. Expanding targeted testing and
treatment of LTBI is key to eliminating TB disease in the U.S. In order to develop an effective
communications campaign that educates individuals at high risk for LTBI and the healthcare providers
who serve them, CDC DTBE seeks to conduct formative message testing.
