Comment:
After reviewing the CDC's regulations for Monitoring Changes
in Attitudes and Practices among Family Planning Providers and
Clinics I feel delivery and education of contraceptive to the
public is very important. Though the public should also bear
some responsibility to their own family planning needs, the
attitude of the providers in the clinics plays a huge part in
how the public views contraceptive education. Long ago there
were only two or three contraceptive methods to choose from
making it easy for medical providers and clinics to educate
patients on what each method was best for the patient and what
the possible side effects were. However, things have changed
and patients now have multiple options when it comes to their
contraceptive needs. This is where the family planning clinics
and providers come in. How a provider educates a patient of
the use of contraceptive is key in that patient choosing that
particular contraceptive method. If a provider doesn't take
the time to educate a patient on the effectiveness of that
method as well as present the possible side effects, most
patients will not want to use that contraceptive method.
Education is the key when it comes to family planning and
contraceptive knowledge is no different. Most people don't use
contraceptive because they simply don't know about them. No
one has taken the time to research what is the patient may be
needing and what method best fits their needs. This is why
this data collection process is so important. If the CDC can
use public comments to make a better determination about the
practices and attitudes of family planning providers, it could
lead to better education to patients. More education means a
decrease in incorrect contraceptive methods being used and an
increase of contraceptive methods as a whole.
