B6. Interview guide on feedback of intervention


Specific objectives:

  1. To gather feedback on hand hygiene interventions, specifically about

    1. Equipment such as sinks, alcohol hand rub bottles or stationary dispensers, containers for chlorine solutions, and wastewater receptacles

    2. Consumables such as soap, alcohol, and chlorine products

    3. Instructional/motivational materials such as posters and visual reminders

    4. Institutional change strategies


Steps:

  1. Provide privacy advisory statement:

Information is being collected for this survey under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2358, Research and Development Projects; DoDI2000.30, Global Health Engagement (GHE) Activities; the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA); and E.O. 13747, Advancing the GlobalHealth Security Agenda to Achieve a World Safe and Secure from Infectious Disease Threats; and will be used to help the DoD Center for Global Health Engagement to understand and evaluate hospital hand hygiene policies and practices. No personally identifiable information (PII) is being collected from you, and all information will be de-identified prior to being reported. Completing the survey is voluntary; you may stop the survey at any time and skip any questions you choose. There is no penalty if you choose not to respond, although maximum participation is encouraged so the data will be complete and representative.”

  1. Record date and time of interview, participant ID, type of administrator/health worker, age, sex, education, and duration of working in this hospital.

  2. Use the guiding questions below. Not all questions are necessary for all participants depending on individual participant characteristics as well as information already obtained from other interviews. Questions can be asked in any order.

  • Do the products cause skin irritation? Dryness?

  • How easy are the products to use? How convenient? Do they dry quickly?

  • Do you like the products overall? Why or why not?

  • Any suggestions for improvement?

  1. Instructional/motivational materials

  • How useful is the information in the materials?

  • How easy to understand is the phrasing of the messages?

  • How easy to remember are the messages?

  • How visually appealing are the materials?

  • Do you like the products overall? Why or why not?

  • Any suggestions for improvement?

  1. Institutional change strategies

  • Who should be the institutional leaders for implementing hand hygiene interventions?

  • How should the hand hygiene team engage the hospital community – events, meetings, activities, etc?

  • Review ward map of proposed equipment/infrastructure changes with participants. Any suggestions for improvement?

  • How easy to understand are the education and training materials? Easy to remember? Visually appealing?

  • Do you think the evaluation/feedback plan within each hospital will be useful? Productive?

  • Any suggestions for improvement on the overall strategy?
