National Security Assessments

Overview:
U.S. Air Force Supply Chain Survey and Assessment
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of Technology
Evaluation (OTE), in coordination with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Air Force
Sustainment Center (AFSC) is conducting a survey and assessment of organizations affiliated with
the sustainment of U.S. Air Force systems supported by the AFSC.
The resulting data will provide a comprehensive understanding of the structure and
interdependencies of the organizations that participate in U.S. Air Force sustainment programs.
This joint effort will aid AFSC in multiple action areas of sustainment, including diminishing
manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS), foreign sourcing and dependencies,
innovation, product and service commodity classification, reliance and use of select critical
minerals, and cyber security, among other fields.
Roughly 10,000 organizations affiliated with U.S. Air Force sustainment will participate in this
mandatory data collection. Each contribution is vital to ensuring a meaningful, robust analytical
response intended to improve AFSC mission execution. BIS has partnered successfully with several
industrial segments in the past, such as rocket propulsion, semiconductor, healthcare, and strategic
materials, and we anticipate similar, mutually beneficial cooperation in the present collection.
Legal Protections and Requirements
