FDA has issued regulations revising
the Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts labels and amended certain
other food labeling requirements. The information collection
supports these requirements, which the agency believes will serve
to promote and protect public health. Respondents to the collection
of information are manufacturers of food products sold in the
United States.
This information collection
reflects adjustments resulting from regulations that have become
effective since last OMB review (RIN 0910-AF22). Accordingly, we
have lowered our third-party disclosure estimate to reflect that
burden associated with changes in labeling resulting from the new
requirements has since been realized by respondents. This results
in a decrease of 1,149,158 annual disclosures and 2,299,816 burden
hours attributable to those labeling changes. We have also made
corresponding cost adjustments.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding
the proposed collection of information, that the certification
covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a
benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
(vi) Need to display currently valid OMB control
number;
If you are unable to certify compliance with any of
these provisions, identify the item by leaving the box unchecked
