Hello, my name is ________________, from National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health - NIOSH. NIOSH is a government research agency that works to improve health and safety and eliminate injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Our division is specifically interested in the issues related to mining.
We are studying health and safety issues related to haul truck operation through a systematic evaluation of previous accident and injuries, operator perspectives, and technology maturity to better understand why these issues continue to occur and identify research and technology gaps that currently exist.
To help us better understand the environment in which haul truck operators operate, we are seeking mine sites who would be willing to host a group of two to three NIOSH researchers for a time period of 2 to 4 days. During these visits, we would like to interview some of your operators, safety professionals, and/or management to get an idea of what safety issues you may be facing. Alternatively, if the site visit is not an option, we would still value your input and would greatly appreciate a phone conference call with your safety professionals and/or haul truck supervisors. In either case, we would be looking to minimize our burden to you and the commitment would be at your level of comfort. Overall, the goal of the site visit and/or phone conference is to help get our researchers better informed and help guide our future research tasks.
If you have any questions about this study, please feel free to contact the project leader, Jennica Bellanca, at [email protected] or 412-386-6445.
I look forward to working with you in the future and I hope to see you soon. Thank you.
