A Message from the Director, U.S. Census Bureau:

We are requesting your participation in the Survey of Construction. The information requested
is summary level data on how building permits are issued and maintained. This information
helps facilitate the monthly collection and tabulation of permit data for your geographical area.
The Survey of Construction produces a variety of statistics on new residential construction and
is partially funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The survey
produces key estimates, such as starts and completions of new single- and multifamily units and
sales of new single-family houses. Government and private entities use these statistics to
monitor and evaluate the large and dynamic housing construction industry and to make vital
economic decisions.
We estimate this survey will take an average of 15 minutes to complete. Additional
information about the authority, confidentiality, and burden of this data collection can be
found on the back of this letter.
For assistance with completing this survey, please contact the Atlanta Regional Office at the
contact information below.
