Dear CDC colleagues,
Please accept this email as an official invitation for a CDC team to conduct an epidemiological investigation to address a
COVID-19 outbreak at the Franklin Parish Detention Center in Louisiana. We would like additional assistance to
implement an epidemiologic study to better understand the extent of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic infection at
the jail. We would also like to better understand demographics and risk factors for COVID-19 among persons
detained. The findings of the investigation can inform additional cohorting recommendations and testing strategies for
correctional facilities, and ultimately prevent transmission.
Sean Simonson, epidemiologist at Louisiana Department of Health, and I will be the CDC team’s primary points of
contact.
