Will I be paid for my participation?
How much?
Why was I selected?
What will you ask me about?
The study team randomly selected a sample
of SNAP participants to be representative of
each State, and of geographic areas within
each State. Your experience with employment
and SNAP will represent others with similar
experiences. Your participation in the survey
will provide essential information needed to
obtain an accurate picture about employment
of SNAP participants in your State.
We will ask about you and your household. We will
also ask about your current job (if you have one)
and about jobs you have held in the past several
months. In addition, we will ask about your
participation in education and training activities.
Who will use this information,
and how?
Are there any costs to me to take
part in the survey?
How long will it take to complete
the survey?
USDA will use the results from this survey to learn
more about the number of SNAP participants in
your State who are working and the nature of the
work they do. Your name and contact information
will never be listed in any reports.
No, there are no costs to you to take part in
the survey.
It varies from person to person, but the
average time to complete the interview is
about 33 minutes.
Do I have to participate?
Why do you need my job history?
No, participation in this survey is voluntary.
You can choose not to participate. However,
we encourage you to participate because
your response to the survey is important for
the quality of the survey findings and the
potential impact on future SNAP policy. If you
participate in the survey, you can skip any
questions you do not want to answer.
Your job history is important because it
helps us learn more about the employment
experiences of people who receive SNAP
benefits and the difficulties faced in finding and
keeping a job. The information you provide
will be private and used only for research and
policy planning purposes.
Yes, as a thank you, you will receive $40 if you
if you complete the survey within the first four
weeks of receiving the invitation and $20 if you
complete it after that time.
Will my answers be kept private?
All information gathered for the survey is private
to the full extent allowed by law. Survey staff
members are prohibited by law from disclosing
your personal information to anyone other than
authorized research staff. The results from the
survey will be reported only in combined totals
with all the other people who take part, never as
individual answers. Reports from the study will
not include your name or any other information
that could identify you. We will not sell or give
away your contact information or add you to
any kind of mailing list.
Does survey participation affect
my benefits?
Your decision to participate in the survey will
not affect your SNAP benefits in any way, now
or in the future. Neither the local SNAP office
nor the USDA will know that you have been
selected or participated in the survey.
