U.S. CENSUS BUREAU
Dear State Tribal Liaison:
The U.S. Census Bureau (Census Bureau) recently invited your government to participate in the
2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP).
We strongly encourage your participation in the 2020 Census PSAP for the following reasons:
• The federal government allocates over $675 billion in federal funds annually for
infrastructure, programs, and services based on Census Bureau data.
• Participation ensures that state recognized tribes in your state will gain valuable
information that will aid in making decisions about education, health services, and
housing.
• The 2020 Census PSAP is your only opportunity to review and update state reservations,
state designated tribal statistical areas (SDTSAs), and census designated places (CDPs)
within your state prior to the 2020 Census.
As of this date, we have not received a response from your state. If you have already sent a
response, you may disregard this letter. If you would like to participate in PSAP and have not
already responded, please take the following action:
1) Go to the PSAP Web site at http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/decennialcensus/about/psap.html to sign-up for PSAP. Fill out the online State Tribal Liaison
Contact Update Form and State Recognized Tribes Update Form and e-mail the
completed forms to [email protected], within two weeks of receipt.
The Census Bureau will offer webinar training for the 2020 Census PSAP beginning in February
2019. Details are available on the PSAP Web site at http://www.census.gov/programssurveys/decennial-census/about/psap.html.
If you are not interested in participating in the 2020 Census PSAP, please e-mail or call the
Census Bureau with an explanation. Contact information is provided below.
