The U.S. Census Bureau (Census Bureau) recently invited your tribal government to participate
in the 2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP). You may now start to review
and update Alaska Native village statistical areas (ANVSAs). Please take the action steps below
to participate.
Action Steps:
1. Review the program materials in your package:
• PSAP Quick Reference Guide(s).
• 2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) Paper Tribal
Respondent Guide – This guide includes instructions on how to review and update
your tribal statistical area(s).
• Paper maps for your tribe.
2. Check the “No Changes” box or check the “I plan to submit changes” box on the enclosed
postage-paid postcard and return it to the Census Bureau within two weeks of receipt.
Note: If you check the “No Changes” box, we are able to confirm that your tribe has
received and reviewed statistical areas for the 2020 Census PSAP. If you do not return the
postage-paid postcard to the Census Bureau, we will contact your tribe to confirm
whether you have any statistical updates to report.
3. Make tribal statistical area boundary updates on the paper maps.
4. Mail the updated paper maps back to the Census Bureau in the same map tube or envelope
in which you received your original materials.
Note: Please make sure to stick the enclosed postage-paid label over the top of the
original label before you send the map tube back to the Census Bureau.
