I reviewed the materials submitted for the following: YRBS TA 2017-2022, Project Number
6528. The Westat IRB reviews all studies involving research on human subjects. This project was
last reviewed in December 2019.
This request was to approve a test-retest reliability study task of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
(YRBS).
Westat’s role will include the following activities:




Administering the paper YRBS to students in sampled schools, then two weeks after the
first survey is completed, administer the survey again to the same students who completed
the initial (Time 1) survey,
Processing all data, and;
Delivering de-identified data files to the client for analysis.

The regulations (45 CFR 46) permit expedited review of minor changes in previously approved
activities. I am therefore approving the modifications under expedited authority.

In the interim, you are responsible for notifying the IRB Office as soon as possible if there
are any injuries to the subjects, as well as problems or changes with the study that relate to
