Request for Approval under the “Generic Clearance for the Collection of Routine Customer Feedback” (OMB#: 0925-0648 Exp., date: 05/2021)

T ITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION: Soliciting feedback on the Omics Nursing & Education Network (ONSEN) website

PURPOSE: To promote the incorporation of omics (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) advances into nursing science studies, the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) in conjunction with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), developed the Omics Nursing Science & Education Network (ONSEN) website. The goal of ONSEN is to advance omics nursing research and education and to facilitate collaborations, mentoring, and access to training opportunities. ONSEN provides a platform for nurse scientists and others from the scientific community to (voluntarily) post information on pre/postdoctoral positions, availability to serve as a mentor or collaborator, and opportunities for sharing existing data and/or samples. Researchers, trainees, educators, and others can search the information that is posted to ONSEN and, if an opportunity of interest (for example, an available postdoctoral position) is identified, reach out directly to the individual that posted the information (note: NIH does not participate in outreach or subsequent follow-up activities).

The information collected from ONSEN users will help NIH to assess whether ONSEN is meeting its goals – for example, information on whether individuals that posted information on ONSEN are being contacted by others in the scientific community to explore potential collaborations, data/sample sharing, mentorship, or pre/postdoctoral opportunities would help NIH assess the utility/effectiveness of ONSEN. Requesting specific suggestions on how to improve the ability of ONSEN to achieve its goals will provide guidance to NIH on potential future updates to ONSEN.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS: Respondents include individuals that posted information (e.g., pre/postdoctoral positions, availability to serve as a mentor or collaborator, opportunities for sharing existing data and/or samples) on ONSEN. Respondents will be contacted approximately one year after they post information to ONSEN, and then each year thereafter for the duration of time that the information is posted (participants can remove content from ONSEN at any time).
