Background / Context
Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to speak with us. As you know, leveraging data as effectively
and efficiently as possible is a key part of the NIH’s data strategy. To that end, NLM is undertaking a project to
better understand the user needs of CDEs and the NIH CDE Repository and determine what changes need to be
made to increase awareness and usage of CDEs.
Objectives of today’s discussion:
• Develop an understanding of your current thoughts on CDEs and the NIH CDE Repository
• Discuss your thoughts and preferences on the future direction of CDEs and the NIH CDE Repository
Before we dive into CDEs, we’d like to start with a little bit of your background:
Introduction and Background
•

•

What is your background, technical training/area of expertise, and history of involvement with
NIH/NLM?
What are your primary responsibilities/duties?

Current Thoughts on CDEs
•
•

In what ways have you been encouraged to use CDEs?
Could you describe the purpose and benefits of CDEs with respect to your position (In what situations
would you find CDEs valuable to supporting your work?)

Current Thoughts on the NIH CDE Repository
Are you aware of the NIH CDE Repository?
Could you describe the purpose and benefits of the Repository with respect to your
position?
• When / how did you learn about the Repository?
Future Thoughts on CDEs
•
•

•
•
•
•

In an ideal world, how would you like you or your team to use CDEs?
What challenges currently exist with using CDEs at NIH?
How would you like to see awareness of CDEs improved at NIH?
What would you like to see changed with CDEs at NIH?

Future Thoughts on the NIH CDE Repository
•
•

In an ideal world, how would you like to use the Repository?
What challenges do you or your team face when using the Repository?

•

Can you describe what a successful outcome for this effort would look like (i.e., what will we have
achieved, or after implementing the recommendations what will have changed with regards to CDEs or
the Repository or adoption)?
Is there anyone else that you think we should meet with (i.e. colleagues, partners, users, etc.)?
Is there anything else you think we should know? Do you have any questions for us at this time?
