The information is used by the Coast Guard (CG) to ensure that a deviation from the navigation safety equipment requirements does not reduce safety

Title 33 CFR Subchapter P is available at—https://www.eCFR.gov, select TITLE 33 –NAVIGATION AND NAVIGABLE WATERS and follow to Subchapter P.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

Information is submitted only when a Master, owner, or agent (applicant) seeks a deviation from the requirements in 33 CFR Subchapter P.

How is the information submitted?

In writing, electronically via e-mail or facsimile, or verbally (e.g., phone or radio). Information is submitted to the CG. Contact info is below.

What happens when complete information is received?

CG will review the information and determine if it justifies the applicant’s request for deviation. CG will advise the applicant of its determination.

An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB control number.

The Coast Guard estimates that the average burden per response is about 2.2 hours.
