The information is required to provide accountability of Government-furnished property provided to contractors under purchase orders for repair. The property and receipt records will permit DoD to account for its property and reduce the risk of misuse or loss of property. Additionally, the electronic records facilitate an electronic end-to-end process for management and oversight of Government-furnished property, as is required by DoD Instruction 4161.02, Accountability and Management of Government Contract Property.
The increase is the result of amendments to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) to require the use of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clause 52.245-1 in purchase orders for repair or maintenance of GFP. Use of the FAR clause these purchase orders will ensure contractor accountability of GFP provided to contractors for repair under purchase orders.
