Invitation Text (Full Study)

Under the Paperwork Reduction Act, a Federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to a collection of information subject to the requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act unless that collection of information displays a current valid OMB Control number. The OMB Control Number for this information collection is 2127-XXXX (expiration date: XX/XX/XXXX). The average amount of time to complete the invitation email is 1 minute. All responses to this collection of information are voluntary. The purpose of this research study is to examine public attitudes toward motor vehicle safety and relationships between attitudes, behaviors, and demographics. The information collected will be summarized in a report to support future countermeasure development. If you have comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden, send them to Information Collection Clearance Officer, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave, S.E., Washington, DC, 20590.

We are looking for participation in a research project. You will participate in this project from your home, using your personal computer. Your task will involve reading a half-page news report describing a vehicle crash and then answering 40 multiple-choice questions relating to the crash report. Participants will receive a link to access the study. We estimate that your participation time will be 20 minutes. No personally identifying information will be associated with your responses. The information collected will be transferred to the researchers at TransAnalytics in Pennsylvania, and will be stored on a computer for analysis along with all the other study participants’ information (the project files will be password protected, access to the files will be limited to authorized project staff, and completed study materials will be stored in locked file cabinets in the contractor’s office). To ensure that your information collected for this study will be kept private, the researchers will not have any access to your personal identification. You will be one of 1,500 people participating in this study. Only one person per household can participate in this study.

Points toward Schlesinger’s credit card program in the amount of $3.00 will be provided for participating and completing the research study.

Eligible participants must meet the following criteria:
- live in the United States,
- be age 18 years old or older (unless you live in Nebraska, Alabama, or Mississippi, in which case you must be 19 years old or older if you live in Nebraska or Alabama and 21 years old or older if you live in Mississippi),
- read and write in English fluently,
