SUBJECT: Justification for Non-Substantive Change to OMB Control No: 0584-0580 WIC Infant and Toddler Feeding Practices Study 2 Year 9 Extension to inform participants of eligibility for possible future studies. No changes to protocols or burden.

FNS is requesting a non-substantive change to the previously approved collection of WIC Infant and Toddler Feeding Practices Study 2 Year 9 Extension (WIC ITFPS-2 Y9) (OMB Control No. 0584-0580 exp. 2/28/2025).

The WIC ITFPS-2 Y9 aims to 1) collect data during the WIC ITFPS-2 study children’s ninth year of life in order to better understand how WIC participation may impact the health and nutrition trajectories of school-aged children who previously received program benefits.

Although we do not currently anticipate extending the WIC ITFPS-2 at this time, future extensions of the study are not unprecedented since the original study plan was only designed to cover the first two years of the study participant’s lives. Additionally, the participants in this study may be eligible and interested in participating in other future studies related to this unique cohort of participants.

In order to inform participants of the possibility of future studies we are requesting a simple change to the Year 9 telephone interview and the Year 9 replicate dietary intake interview (Appendices F1, F2, F3, and F4 of the study packet) sample. Specifically, one sentence will be added to the closing statement of the interviews: “We may contact you again if you are selected for any other studies”. See Table 1 for the specific location of the additional sentence in each study document for which we are requesting this change. No changes are proposed to the level of burden for participants, the burden remains the same as the original OMB submission.
