Supporting Excellence in Adult Education (1830-0579)

Comment: One commenter expressed opposition to federal funding of adult education.

Response: The ICR published for public comment does not provide federal funding for adult education. It collects information about adult education and literacy programs for which Congress has appropriated federal funds.

Comment: One commenter expressed support for the ICR and recommended that OCTAE recognize and promote adult education projects that promote understanding across communities and promote multiculturalism.

Response: We appreciate the commenter’s input and appreciate the support for projects that promote multiculturalism, but no changes have been made. The purpose of this information collection is to obtain information about innovative practices in adult education and literacy that are associated with positive outcomes for adult learners. We welcome information about innovative practices that result in meaningful outcomes for participants that the adult education field, may elect to share to help AEFLA providers in becoming more knowledgeable about innovations and in improving the quality of their services.

Comment: One commenter expressed support for the purpose of the ICR and recommended that OCTAE prioritize the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework as an innovative and evidence-based practice in its adult education programs and funding priorities.

Response: We appreciate the commenter’s support for the collection and appreciate the commenter’s support for evidence-based practices, but no changes are made. As mentioned in the previous response, the purpose of this information collection request is to obtain information about innovative practices in adult education and literacy that are associated with positive outcomes for adult learners. We are not seeking to prioritize any specific practice but welcome information from the field about any innovative practices that result in meaningful outcomes for participants that will help AEFLA providers in improving the quality of their services.
