1b. FY18+ FDR - SAA & RAO - Guidance for Question 14 & 17

Purpose: This guidance was created to clarify how grantees should classify “children” who are engaged
in “in-person” arts experiences (Question 14b) and children and young adults who are a part of the
population directly benefited from the award (Question 17).
Description: The final descriptive report form provides an age range for children of 0-18 years old. The
National Standard indicates the age range for children should be 0-17 years old. In order to align the
data collected from this final descriptive report to the National Standard, grantees should define
children as people 0-17 years old and young adults as people 18-24 years old.
Below are the questions as they appear in the final descriptive report form with the relevant fields
highlighted.
14. Adults and Youth Engaged in “In-Person” Arts Experiences
Enter the number of people who directly engaged with the arts, whether through attendance at arts
events or participation in arts learning or other types of activities in which people were directly involved
with artists or the arts. Do not count individuals reached through TV, radio or cable broadcast, the
Internet, or other media. Include actual audience numbers based on paid/free admissions or seats filled.
Avoid inflated numbers, and do not double- count repeat attendees.
