A Message from the Director, U.S. Census Bureau:
We request your parcipaon with the Survey of Construction. The information requested is
summary level data on how building permits are issued and maintained. This information helps
facilitate the monthly collection and tabulation of permit data for your geographical area.
The Survey of Construcon produces a variety of stascs on new residenal construcon and
is partially funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The survey
produces key estimates, such as starts and completions of new single- and mulfamily units
and sales of new single-family houses. Government and private entities use these statistics to
monitor and evaluate the large and dynamic housing construcon industry and to make vital
economic decisions.
Information about the authority, confidentiality, and burden of this data collecon can be
found on the back of this letter.
