INSTRUCTION SHEET for DRY MILL PRODUCERS
Who Should Report – A form is needed from all firms in the United States operating a dry mill
for the production of alcohol. A separate report should be filed for each active dry mill of your
company. Call the toll free help line, 1-888-424-7828, if you need additional forms or have
questions.
If You Have a Dry Mill that is No Longer Active or is now Operated by another Firm –
Write “No Longer Active” and the “date” the mill became inactive below the address area. If the
dry mill is now operated by another firm, and, if known, list the name and address of who is now
operating the mill. Return the form.
How to Enter Your Responses – Enter your figures in the unit(s) requested, i.e., bushels, tons,
or pounds. Keep numbers within the boxes. Please note that some figures should be rounded to
thousands. For example, if you used 660,020 bushels of corn in the dry mill, report 660.
Reference Period – Specified in column 3 as the entire reference month.
Included on this report – Corn, sorghum, wheat and other grains processed by grinding kernels
into coarse flour and fermenting to convert starch to sugar, including those used in the distillation
of beverage alcohol, industrial alcohol, or fuel alcohol.
Report all quantities of co-product production and corn grind used during alcohol production
whether for your own account or on a toll basis. All establishments reporting dry mill coproducts should report grain used to produce alcohol.

Co-products
Distillers wet grain (DWG) 65% or more moisture - The feed product, containing 65 percent
or more moisture, obtained after the removal of alcohol by distillation from the yeast
fermentation of a grain or a grain mixture by separating the resultant coarse grain fraction of the
whole stillage not dried.
Modified distillers wet grain (DWG) 50%-64% moisture - The feed product, containing 50 to
64 percent moisture, obtained after the removal of alcohol by distillation from the yeast
fermentation of a grain or a grain mixture by separating the resultant coarse grain fraction of the
whole stillage not dried.

(OVER)

Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) - The feed product, containing 65 to 70 percent
moisture, is obtained after the removal of alcohol by distillation from the yeast fermentation of a
grain or a grain mixture by separating the resultant course grain fraction of the whole stillage and
then mixing with condensed distillers solubles (70 percent moisture) and drying the entire
mixture to about 88 to 90 percent dry matter.
Distillers dried grains (DDG) - The feed product obtained after the removal of alcohol by
distillation from the yeast fermentation of a grain or a grain mixture by separating the resultant
coarse grain fraction of the whole stillage and drying it by methods employed in the grain
distilling industry.
Condensed distillers soluables (CDS - syrup) - The feed product obtained after removal of
alcohol by distillation from the yeast fermentation of a grain or a grain mixture by condensing
the thin stillage fraction to a semi-solid, containing about 30 percent dry matter. Condensed
distiller’s solubles can be sold locally to cattle feeders or mixed with distillers wet grain and
dried to produce distillers dried grain with solubles.
Corn oil - Oil extracted during the production of alcohol.
Captured carbon dioxide (CO2) - Carbon dioxide is present during the fermentation stage of
ethyl alcohol production and many dry mills collect that carbon dioxide and market it as a coproduct.
Other co-products - Report any and all alcohol by-products from the dry mill process at this
establishment not listed on this form.
