[SURVEY YEAR FILL] Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates
in Science and Engineering (GSS)
This document provides an overview of the data collected in the [SURVEY YEAR FILL] Survey of Graduate
Students and Postdoctorates in Science and Engineering (GSS). This information is conveyed through
screenshots of the GSS Web instrument that is used by responding institutions when completing the survey.
Screenshots are provided for the major data collection items in the instrument.
The GSS Web instrument collects data on three groups—graduate students (master’s and doctoral),
postdoctoral researchers (postdocs), and doctorate-holding nonfaculty researchers.
The data collected for each group, along with unit-specific information, are as follow:
