Description

This ICR data collection does not involve collecting information in identifiable form. The
purpose of this data collection is to develop a tool to assist CDC, states and communities in
conducting dental public health surveillance. De-identified oral health data of students
collected by six dental examiners in Colorado will initially be saved and stored to a
smartphone and ultimately uploaded to a secure cloud storage box (HIPAA compliant). The
examiners will be granted a temporary password that allows them access to the cloud
storage box. Once data are transferred from the phone to the cloud, all records will be
deleted from the smartphone. CDC designated researchers will have access to the data
stored in the cloud while they are training and testing the deep learning algorithms to detect
caries, sealants, and fluorosis. Upon completion of this project, the de-identified data will be
stored on a secure CDC server. CDC will retain records in accordance with the applicable
CDC records control schedule. It has a plan in place to implement, in the unspecified future, a
National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) archive in compliance with
requirements on records before this data application is retired.
The NCCDPHP Information Systems Security Officer has reviewed this submission and
determined the Privacy Act does not apply.
