This survey is being conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in collaboration with the National Park Service
and with the help of local assistants. The results will be used to estimate wild food harvests and describe rural community
economies. We will NOT identify your household. We will NOT use this information for enforcement. Participation in this
survey is voluntary and your responses will be completely anonymous Even if you agree to be surveyed, you may skip
questions or stop at any time.

PAPERWORK REDUCTION ACT STATEMENT:
A federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information, unless a currently valid
OMB control number is displayed. 16 U.S.C.1a‐7 authorizes the collection of this information. This information will be used by the National
Park Service, the Federal Subsistence Management Program, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Subsistence to
understand more about harvest and subsistence use in [NAME: ALASKA COMMUNITY or PARK. Response to this request is voluntary.
Your name will not appear anywhere on the completed survey and your responses will be completely anonymous.
BURDEN STATEMENT The public reporting burden for completing individual interviews is estimated to take 60 minutes. Please for
completing individual interviews is estimated to take less than 10 minutes. Please direct comments regarding any aspect of this collection

“Hello, I am here (calling) today because we are conducting a comprehensive harvest survey to
document all parts of the subsistence economy in this community. The survey is sponsored by the
National Park Service, and the information will be used to update their resource harvest and use
records of residents in this community.
Would you be willing to schedule a time to conduct a face-to-face interview that will take about onehour to complete. During the interview we will ask questions about your harvesting practices and
preferences. The information will be used to estimate wild food harvests and to describe effects on
the economies in rural communities.
Would you be willing to participate in the survey?
→If YES –or would you prefer to schedule another day and time?
→If YES – Is this a good time to schedule another day and time for the interview?
→If YES – Ask to schedule the time for the interview
→If NO – Ask for a better time to contact them to schedule the interview
→If NO (but interested in more information)- It is important to learn from as as many people
as possible because it will help us to update our harvest records. The information you provide
will not be connected back to you or your household. Your responses will be completely
anonymous and will only be used in a report that will summarize all of the responses we
receive.
