Dear [Vessel Representative Name]
The For-Hire Survey (which includes the Large Pelagics Telephone Survey)
has been adopted by the state and federal partners of the Atlantic Coastal
Cooperative Statistics Program (ACCSP) as the official method for collecting
catch and effort data from the for-hire (charter and head boat) and HMS
Charter/Headboat permitted fleets. Using a coastwide directory of eligible
vessels, vessels are sampled weekly to report trip-level information for the
previous week’s fishing activity. As in previous years, the Maine Department
of Marine Resources is conducting this survey.
You have been selected to report the fishing activity of the [Vessel Name]
for the week of:
September 28, 2020 through October 4, 2020
Beginning on Monday October 5, 2020 we will attempt to contact you to
collect this information.
Even if you did not fish during the reporting period indicated above, it is still
important that you participate in the survey. The enclosed logsheet can be
used to record your trip information during the specified week of fishing.
Instructions have been provided to help you fill in the requested information.
At the conclusion of the fishing week, an interviewer will contact you to
complete the survey questionnaire. Recording trip information in the logsheet
will help facilitate the entry of questionnaire responses during the interview.
If you would like to schedule a time for an interviewer to call you at your
convenience or if you have any questions concerning the form or this
important survey please call the state FHS contact [Interviewer Name] at
[Interviewer Phone] or email her at [Interviewer Email].
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
