Title of Collection: Generic Clearance for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Regional Innovation Engines (RIE) Evaluation and Monitoring Plan



1. Describe the Potential Respondent Universe

The entire universe of respondents will be comprised of approximately 4,210 respondents among surveys and a focus group. These respondents include awardees, program participants, and partners among the Regional Innovation Engines Program.

The survey will be given to all participants of the Program, which makes the collection a census.

2. Procedures for the Collection of Information

Email addresses that the program participants provided at the time of their application to the program (and verified during the post-award process) will be used to inform them about the surveys and the focus group, as well as sending them links to access the web surveys at the interval specified on each survey:

  • Intake: Survey on programmatic activities;

  • Intake: Survey on additional funds received;

  • Intake: Survey on program participants and/or individuals involved in Engines’ activities;

  • Survey on programmatic activities;

  • Survey on program participants and/or individuals involved in Engines' activities;

  • Survey on partner organizations;

  • Focus group interviews

The focus group will provide further information on dates and follow-up procedures.

3. Methods to maximize response rate and minimize non-response rate

To maximize the response rate, we will notify the respondents ahead of sending out the survey to convey the importance of these data that we are collecting from them, and establish credibility to the respondents.

To minimize (survey) non-response rate, we plan to send out 2 reminder emails to program participants and urge them to fill out the surveys.
