According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a
person is not required to respond to a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB
control number. The valid OMB control number for this information collection is 0579-XXXX. The
time required to complete this information collection is estimated to average 15 minutes per
response, including the time to review instructions, search existing data resources, gather the data
needed, and complete and review the information collected.

You are being asked to participate in a research study titled “Understanding Knowledge and
Beliefs about Translocation of Wild Pigs.” The purpose of the study is to measure key factors
related to the management of wild pigs to aid in the development of strategies for reducing
negative effects of wild pig populations. You will be asked to take the following online survey
questionnaire, which we expect will take you approximately 15 minutes. Your participation is
voluntary, and you can skip any question you do not wish to answer or withdraw at any time. We
are not collecting directly identifying information, and when we report and share the data with
others, we will combine demographic data from everyone who takes the survey so you cannot
be identified individually.
You must be 18 or older to participate. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Keith
Carlisle, the Principal Investigator for the study at USDA-APHIS, by phone at 970-266-6047 or
by email at [email protected].
You indicate that you voluntarily agree to participate in this research study by submitting the
survey.

Wild Pigs in Your State
Instructions: To complete the survey, please answer each of the following questions. In most
cases, by clicking the back buttons at the end of each section, you can return to previously
answered questions and update your responses. You can also leave the survey at any time and
re-enter where you left off by clicking on the survey link again.
A note about the survey: You will be asked about wild pigs in your state (see “What are wild
pigs?” below). Many of the questions concern the practice of capturing wild pigs, transporting
them (for example, in a tow trailer), and releasing them elsewhere, most commonly for hunting
purposes. We understand that you may not be familiar with wild pigs or these practices, which is
why we have included “I don’t know” response options for many of the questions. If you’re not
familiar with wild pigs or the practices we ask about, your responses will still provide us with
important information, and we want to hear from you!
What are wild pigs? The term “wild pig” refers to any free-roaming pig, swine, or boar
regardless of its appearance. Wild pigs may appear very similar to domestic farm or pet pigs, or
they may have a more “wild” appearance. Wild pigs are also commonly called wild hogs, feral
hogs, wild boar, feral swine, and feral pigs.
