Instructions:

Hard check:
1. Date entered must be between {YEAR} - 120 years where 'YEAR' is the current year and
RU level reference period end date/interview date (RUEndM, RUEndD, RUEndY). If a date
outside of this range is entered, display the following message: "UNLIKELY RESPONSE.
DATE CANNOT BE AFTER TODAY'S DATE OR BEFORE {YEAR-120}. VERIFY
WITH RESPONDENT AND RE-ENTER."
Soft check:
1. Check if the first and last name entered matches the first and last name of an existing DU
member. Check the OF80_01 value entered against the ‘First name’ value
(RE_Person.FName) and the OF80_03 value against the ‘Last name’ value
(RE_Person.LName) of all persons in the DU. For the name value, do not consider case of
characters, middle name (RE_Person.MName) or non-alpha characters as differences.
2. Check the OF90 value entered against the ‘Sex’ value (RE_Person.Sex).
3. Check if the date of birth entered matches the date of birth of an existing RU member.
Check the OF100_01 value entered against the ‘Month’ value (RE_Person.DOBM), the
OF100_02 value against the ‘Day’ value (RE_Person.DOBD) and the OF100_03 value
against the ‘Year’ value (RE_Person.DOBY) of all persons in the DU.
For all checks, include the use of ‘DK’ (Don’t Know’) and ‘RF’ (Refused) as values.
If each of the name, sex, and date of birth values (FName, LName, Sex, DOBM, DOBD,
DOBY) match the information of an existing DU member, display the following message:
“The information you have entered is the same as an existing DU member. Please verify the
name, sex, and date of birth. If you need to correct an existing DU member’s information,
please back up to OF20 and select ‘EDIT PERSON INFORMATION’.”

Programmer
Instructions:

If coded ‘1’ (LIVING AWAY AT SCHOOL) and Round 1, calculate the age from NHIS
interview date (NHISDt). If Round <> 1, calculate age from January 1, {YEAR} where year
is the first calendar year of panel for ‘YEAR’. This calculation is using the age-at-NHIS (or
age-at-1/1/First Panel Year) rather than the age calculation described in the GL spec.
Therefore, age categories cannot be included in the check.
If calculated age at NHIS or 1/1/{YEAR} is < = 23 , go to OF220.
If calculated age at NHIS or 1/1/{YEAR} is unknown or cannot be calculated, go to OF210.
Control Variables Impacted during MHOP: CtrlPersKey, CtrlSampNHIS
HARD CHECK: If coded ‘1’ (LIVING AWAY AT SCHOOL) and calculated age at NHIS or
1/1/{YEAR} > 23, display the following message: “For the purposes of this survey, students
older than 23 are considered living in a private household. INTERVIEWER: PLEASE
CHANGE OF180 (WherePersJan1) TO CODE 4 (IN A PRIVATE
RESIDENCE/HOUSEHOLD).”

listed, separate names using commas, except for between the last two names displayed.
Between the last two names displayed, separate names using the word “and”.
Display response category ‘5’ (IF VOLUNTEERED: BORN AFTER {DATE}) if the
person’s date of birth year is on or after NHIS year (PesonDOBY=>NHISDt (year)) or if

For ‘{PERSON}’ display the first, middle, and last name entered at OF80_01-OF80_03.
For “DATE” in the response category display, display NHISDt (as month DD, YYYY) if
Round 1 or “JANUARY 1, {YEAR}” where “YEAR” is the first panel year if Round <> 1.
If round 1, display “Was {PERSON} living away at school, living on a military facility,
