The Railroad Retirement Act provides
for payment of age, disability and supplemental annuities to
qualified employees. The application and related forms obtain
information about the applicant's family work history, military
service, disability benefits from other government agencies and
public or private pensions. The information is used to determine
entitlement to and the amount of the annuity applied for.

The estimated total number of
responses for this collection has decreased due to a decrease in
the annual number of retirements and disability applications of
railroad employees, as well as more accurate ways of determining
annual AA-1 and AA-1d responses. The number of AA-1 (Internet)
responses has changed because the Form AA-1 (Internet) has been
paused in a pilot state due to security concerns.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
