Dear [Respondent Name],
An interviewer from our contractor, NORC at the University of Chicago, spoke with you about your
participation in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS). Many people are cautious about
sharing information about themselves, especially since fraud and scams are common. I want to
respond to any concerns you might have about the legitimacy of the MCBS.
The MCBS is a survey sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the
U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The study provides data for researchers and
policymakers to understand health care use and needs of Medicare recipients in the United States. It
collects information about health care, prescription drugs, and other health-related costs. NORC will
never ask for protected information like your Social Security Number.
The Federal Privacy Act of 1974 protects your answers, and publicly released information cannot
identify you. NORC meets high federal standards for information security. Your information and
responses to the survey will never be sold or shared with anyone trying to sell you something,
such as insurance companies.
Call 1-844-777-2151 or email [email protected] to verify your survey participation. You may also ask
for an interviewer's employee ID number and last name to verify they work at NORC by visiting
http://www.norc.org/verifyme.
Thank you for your support of the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey.
Sincerely,
Marina Vornovitsky, Director
