JUSTIFICATION FOR NONMATERIAL/NONSUBSTANTIVE CHANGE
National Summer Teacher Institute (NSTI) and Master Teacher of Invention and Intellectual Property Education Program (MTIP)
OMB Control Number 0651-0077
2024
Background:
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) conducts the National Summer Teacher Institute (NSTI) on Innovation, STEM, and Intellectual Property, as well as the similar Master Teacher of Invention and Intellectual Property Education Program (MTIP). These programs, which focus on innovation, STEM, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property, are offered in support of USPTO’s ongoing education and outreach programming and Department of Commerce Innovation initiatives. Likewise, these programs are part of the USPTO’s ongoing efforts to foster innovation, competitiveness and economic growth, domestically and abroad, by providing relevant intellectual property, innovation, and invention education resources to school administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
This change worksheet changes two forms in the information collection, PTO/NSTI/001 (NSTI Application) and PTO/MTIP/001 (MTIP Application). The USPTO streamlined these forms by removing questions and eliminating unnecessary PII collection. The USPTO aims to ease the burden on NSTI and MTIP applicants by honing in on the information most relevant to the application review process. Some of the remaining questions have been revised, and a new question (Q13) has been added to PTO/NSTI/001 and two new questions (Q13 and Q18) to PTO/MTIP/001.
Changes in Burden:
There are no changes in burden to the information collection in this request.
