The Suicide Prevention 2.0 Program - Community Opinion Survey received one comment
in response to the 60-Day Federal Register Notice (VA-2025-VACO-0001-0046, FR Doc
No: 2025-12222) on August 7, 2025.
Document: VA-2025-VACO-0001-0074 – We appreciate the commentor’s concernssuggestions, and VA responds as follows:
•

The general comment states that “localizing suicide intervention strategies and
mental health crisis support is essential for providing effective care and
prevention.” The commenter goes on to say that local mental health and
community leaders are best suited to understand the local risk factors and barriers
to care and to strategize solutions that are culturally and locally appropriate for
those at risk. This local attention builds trust and engagement with constituencies
for more effective and wholistic interventions and outcomes.
o VA agrees with these comments. Through the Governor’s Challenge and
local coalitions focused on Veteran suicide prevention, VA’s Office of
Suicide Prevention helps build and support local connections that are well
equipped to address the local environment, nuances, and culturally
appropriate solutions to engage those at risk for suicide.

VA’s Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) appreciates the opportunity to review and
respond to the comments. The commenter did not request any changes to the
Community Opinion Survey and we make no changes to the information collection at this
time.
