Noyce Evaluation Interview Consent
TITLE OF RESEARCH STUDY: NSF Noyce Teacher Scholarship Evaluation
RESEARCH TEAM: Project Director, Dr. Patrik Lundh, (650) 859-3603,
[email protected]
You are being asked to participate in an evaluation study about the Robert Noyce Teacher
Scholarship Program. This evaluation is being funded by the National Science Foundation
(NSF) and takes place over a 2-year period.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The purpose of the evaluation is to evaluate the impact of the
Noyce program’s strategies to recruit and retain STEM professionals and talented
undergraduate students majoring in a STEM discipline to become K-12 mathematics and
science teachers in high-need schools and school districts; contribute to research and
knowledge; and create teacher preparation learning environments and professional
development experiences marked by fostering opportunities and leveraging individual
skills and experiences.
STUDY PROCEDURES:
We are asking researchers and scholars who worked or are currently working on a project
funded by the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Grant to
participate in one individual interview with the potential for a second follow-up interview.
The interview is about your role and experiences with the project. We will ask about the
project approaches, challenges, and solutions, as well as people and organizations that
support the project. The follow-up interview, if requested, will elaborate on information
provided or ask about anything that was missed or needs clarification. Interviews will take
place in person, over the phone, or using online video conferencing (such as Zoom) and
take 45-60 minutes.
AUDIO RECORDING: We would like to audio-record interviews to ensure the accuracy of
these data but you may still participate in the interview(s) if you choose not to be audiorecorded. Recordings will later be transcribed for analysis. We may also use anonymous
quotations (i.e., names or other identifying information will not be included) from the
recordings in publications and presentations to illustrate our findings.
All transcriptions will be kept in a password-protected file for the duration of the study and
only shared with members of the research team. The recordings will be kept with other
electronic data in a secure SRI OneDrive account until the transcription phase of this
research study has concluded and they will be destroyed.
CONFIDENTIALITY: The data collected from you for this study will be used without
identifying you for future research studies that are not described in this consent form. Data
collected and themes apparent from this study will be reported to NSF as formative
feedback.
COMPENSATION: There is no compensation for participating.
