As a data scientist who works with complex data systems, I believe the practical utility of this information is paramount for successful, science-based conservation. To improve the quality and clarity of the information collected, I suggest that the USFWS prioritize the collection of data regarding non-lethal deterrents used prior to any "depredation-related take" incidents. Detailed reporting on the efficacy of fladry, range riders, and other non-lethal methods would provide a more robust dataset for evaluating how wolves and livestock can coexist. Furthermore, to minimize the burden on the public and improve data accuracy, I recommend the implementation of a streamlined, mobile-friendly digital reporting system for "General Take" (such as highway mortalities) and sightings. This would ensure that biological data is captured in near real-time, providing the agency with the highfidelity data necessary to monitor the health and expansion of the population accurately.
