General Comment
I appreciate the opportunity to comment on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) policy
on Medicare Coverage of Items and Services for Coverage with Evidence Development (CED). I support
CMS’s continued use of Coverage with Evidence Development as it provides a balance between
expanding access to innovative healthcare services and making sure that Medicare beneficiaries receive
treatments supported by scientific evidence. As medical technology advances over the coming years, new
treatments, procedures, and healthcare services are developed at a quick pace. Many of these innovations
have the potential to improve patient outcomes, yet it is significantly important that Medicare coverage
decisions are based on evidence displaying safety. The CED process will ensure that patients can access
treatments as well as collect additional information to better understand their long-term benefits and risks.
