The Federal Credit Union (FCU) Act of 1970 (12 U.S.C. 1752) established the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) as an independent agency, in control of regulating and supervising federal credit unions, and administering the National Credit Union Shared Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).
