Collection of Information to Assess the Current State of Library and Museum Infrastructure to Identify Infrastructure Needs.

This inaugural and formative research study seeks to inform IMLS about the condition of library and museum facilities within rural and underserved communities, as well as locations at risk of natural disasters and climate change. This research also seeks to inform IMLS of how such facilities can be improved. Specifically, this research will assess the diversity of museums and libraries’ infrastructure needs within these areas and the processes required to address these needs through facility improvements. Taken together, the empirical data collected will be used to illuminate priorities that the agency should consider for future grant-programs, data collections, and when determining future facility investments. The final report will be written keeping Congressional and federal audiences in mind as well as those in the library and museum sectors.
