Abstract: DRIVER VEHICLE INSPECTION REPORTS ARE REQUIRED BY 49 CFR 396. THE REPORT IS USED TO IDENTIFY AND DEFECT OR CONDITION LIKELY TO AFFECT SAFETY OF OPERATION OR RESULT IN A MECHANIAL BREAKDOWN, AND PROVIDES FOR EFFECTIVE CONTROL BY BMCS ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS. MAINTANCE REPORTS ARE REQUIRED BY 49 CFR 396. MOTOR CARRIERS ARE REQUIRED TO RECORD THE NATURE AND DATE OF VARIOUS INSPECTION, REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES FOR EACH VEHICLE.
