THE FEDERAL MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT
OF 1977 (P.L. 96-164) STATES THAT THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH,
EDUCATION AND WELFARE WILL PROVIDE FOR AN AUTOPSY TO BE PERFORMED
UPON THE DEATH OF ANY ACTIVE, OR INACTIVE MINER, WITH THE CONSENT
OF HIS SURVIVING NEXT OF KIN. THE DATA COLLECTED IS ALSO USED FOR
RESEARCH PURPOSES IN DEFINING THE DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA FOR
COALWORKERS' PNEUMOCONIOSIS AND IS CORRELATED WITH PATHOLOGIC
CHANGES AND X-RAY FINDGINS
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
