Abstract: THE MONTHLY RETAIL TRADE REPORT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF COLLECTING AND TABULATING ESTIMATED DOLLAR VOLUME END-OF-MONTH INVENTORIES OF RETAIL STORES. THE CHANGES IN THE VALUE OF INVENTORY LEVELS ARE USED BY BUREAU OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS IN THEIR CALCULATIONS OF THE GNP. THE ESTIMATES WHICH ARE PUBLISHED MONTHLY BY THE BUREAU ARE AN IMPORTANT AND TIMELY INDICATOR OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY.
