Abstract: PROVIDES DATA ON THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTIC OF HOUSEHOLDS OPERATING SMALL FARMS TO TEST THE IMPACT OF ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO IMPROVE FAMILY INCOME. PARTICULAR CONCERN IS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BLACK FARM OPERATORS. THIS RESEARCH WILL GUIDE DECISIONS ON FEDERAL POLICIES AND PROGRAM RELATED TO SMALL FARM ASSISTANCE.
