Abstract: AS AN EXTENSION OF WORK ON ADAPTING THE NATIONAL CRIME SURVEY TO TELE PHONE ADMINISTRATION, SRC WILL INVESTIGATE ADAPTATION OF THE NCS INSTR MENT TO A COMPUTER-ASSISTED TELEPHONE MEDIUM. WORKING WITH A COMPUTER TERMINAL, INTERVIEWERS WOULD BE ABLE TO ENTER DATA DIRECTLY ON-LINE, ENABLING FASTER DATA PROCESSING, CLOSER MONITORING OF INTERVIEWER BEHAVIOR, AND BETTER MEASUREMENT OF INTERVIEWER VARIANCE AS A COMPONEN OF SURVEY ERROR
