Abstract: THE AREA COVERED BY THE BUREAU IN THE COLLECTION OF PRODUCTION ESTIMATES IS DICTATED BY ITS RESPONSIBILITIES TO FURNISH ESTIMATES OF MINERAL PRODUCTION FOR THE SECRETARY'S NEW YEAR'S REPORT AND FOR PRELIMINARY ANNUAL ESTIMATES, PUBLISHED BY COMMODITY, SHORTLY AFTER THE END OF THE YEAR. THERE IS CONSIDERABLE INTEREST IN GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, THE INDUSTRY AND THE PUBLIC, TO KNOW THE LEVEL OF MINERALS PRODUCTION FOR THE YEAR JUST PAST PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE.
