Abstract: 26 USC 6333 AUTHORIZES IRS TO SECURE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECORDS OF PROPERTY SUBJECT TO LEVY FOR ANY TAXPAYER. LETTER CO-42 IS USED BY TH SERVICE TO REQUEST CHECKING, SAVINGS, AND SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX INFORMATION FROM A BANK ABOUT THE TAXPAYER'S ACCOUNTS. THIS INFORMATION IS THEN USED BY THE SERVICE TO PLACE A LEVY AGAINST THESE ASSETS OF THE TAXPAYER TO COVER A TAX BALANCE DUE.
