Abstract: LETTER 1543(SC) IS AN INITIAL TAXPAYER CONTACT LETTER USED FOR CERTAIN RETURNS THAT FALL WITHIN THE INFORMATION RETURNS PROGRAM. IT IS USED TO SOLICIT THE REASONS FOR FAILURE TO REPORT INCOME AND TO ESTABLISH THE ACCURACY OF THE UNDERREPORTED AMOUNTS IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE INFORMATION FOR FURTHER ACTION.
