It is our
understanding that EPA and DOT will conduct a joint rulemaking for
revisions in the hazardous waste manifest system. When finished,
that revision will replace the existing manifest system that has
been approved.

THE MANIFEST IS THE TRACKING DOCUMENT
THAT ALSO MEETS THE DOT SHIPPING PAPER REQUIREMENTS WHICH ALLOWS A
GENERATOR TO VERIFY WHETHER ANY LOAN OF HAZARDOUS WASTE IS ACCEPTED
BY DESIGNED FACILITY. IT ALSO HELPS ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS ESTABLISH
CUSTODY OF ANY SUCH LOAD.
