After the Three
Mile Island incident, USDA conducted several similar exposure
studies. TVA should check with USDA headquarters to identify
available existing data. Future requests for clearance should
identify why existing data does not meet TVA's needs. Further, TVA
should include more specific details on the need for the monitoring
program including why the NRC specifies two surveys at Browns Ferry
each year. TVA should also consider selecting a sample of farms to
survey. Finally, TVA should specify the practical utility beyond
"calculating radiation dose."
